I help those who feel a sense of dissatisfaction in their relationships or work, or a pervasive sense that something is missing, stuck, or unfulfilled.  Emotional turmoil can affect our overall well-being and diminish our quality of life, at times it can feel hopeless or impossible to see the change you desire.  I support those who want to feel loved, cherished, respected, and connected with the people around them. Who would like to feel safe and free from the fear of abandonment and betrayal, and confident and empowered in themselves and their decisions. If you would like to work towards a sense of inner peace and fulfillment in yourself and your relationships, I am here to guide you on that journey.

My style tends to be active rather than passive, meaning I will listen deeply AND challenge you to step into your potential to experience meaningful transformation. You won’t need to worry about awkward silences (although silence has its place), thinking of things to bring to sessions, or experiencing judgment in our time together. I am never offended by your needs or feedback, which is always appreciated and part of building a strong, collaborative relationship. I pull from a deep well of modalities and theories to create an individualized holistic experience, while always working from an trauma-responsive lens.

I have spent most of my career as a therapist in community settings, advocating for and supporting youth and adults experiencing crisis, acute mental health needs, and system harm and disenfranchisement. I have been honored to support people as they have worked to untangle themselves, heal, and create meaningful change in their lives while actively experiencing chaos, harm caused by systems, and intergenerational cycles of trauma. My role has often focused on intervening during active crisis and quickly creating stabilization and ongoing change.

LaShanda McGowan (She/Her), CSWA

Offerings: Individual Therapy, Couples, Teens

Specializing in: Racial and Systemic Trauma, Religious Harm, and Complex PTSD

Approach: Internal Family Systems, Trauma Focused, Narrative, and CBT

I work with those who have had the odds stacked against them, those who have experienced abuse, lack of acceptance and discrimination. Whether that has been systemic oppression, racial, generational, religious or complex trauma. I can relate to the experiences of marginalized people with real lived experience.

I provide a space that is judgement free, compassionate, and honest where we co-create a path forward.  I will be there walking alongside you every step of the way.
I am “ride or die” for my people and take an active approach helping you co-create the path forward.

If you have felt rejected, tired, and uncertain about the future and desire to feel hopeful, empowered, and clear about the way forward, lets connect and explore working together.

I help people who have been considered “non-traditional” in many ways, people who have been “othered”, who have felt like outcasts and outsiders their whole lives.

People reach out to me for therapy after having masked and developed maladaptive coping skills to cover up the behaviors and personality traits that society has deemed unacceptable.

I usually work with people in the polyamorous, ethically non-monogamous, relationship anarchist, LGBTQIA+, and neurodivergent community.

I help people to feel more comfortable in their own skin, and help people take up the space they need to in the world. I help people get to the core of who they are without the constant masking and acting to fit in.
